Abstract

This research aims to: (building an educational program for environmental education according to the information processing strategy, and knowing the effectiveness of the educational program based on the information processing strategy in developing environmental awareness among students of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. To achieve the two objectives of the research, the researcher relied on the descriptive approach in building the educational program and the experimental method in demonstrating the effectiveness of the program in developing environmental awareness among his research sample, and formulated three hypotheses to achieve the research objectives. The current research was limited to students of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences in the College of Education for Human Sciences at Tikrit University / the first phase for the academic year 2020-2021, and the researcher adopted the experimental design with partial control (the design of the non-random control group) with the pre and post test. (90) male and female students from the first stage / morning study in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. The researcher applied the two tests at the end of the experiment, which lasted for a full academic year, starting from 11/22/2020 to 5/6/2021, and the results were treated using the T-test for two independent samples (T-test). The results showed the following: - The students of the experimental group who studied the subject Environmental education in the educational program prepared according to the information processing strategy on the students of the control group who studied the same subject without the program (in the usual way) in the dimension of environmental awareness scale. - There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group in the two applications, pre and post, of the environmental awareness scale, in favor of the post application. In light of the findings of the study, the researcher came up with a number of conclusions, the most important of which are: The educational program has proven its effectiveness in developing environmental awareness, which indicates the ability of students to acquire skills by providing an educational environment enhanced by educational means and various activities.
